This is EIA’s residential bulk propane fuel price per gallon, not the cost to buy or install a tank.
How to use this figure
Use this page to price residential bulk propane gallons at the last EIA weekly price CostMage extracted, including after EIA pauses the heating-season survey.
- Read the week ending 2026-03-30 before treating $2.674 as current. EIA does not collect this residential series all year.
- Enter gallons of fuel. The total is gallons times that price.
- Compare a dealer’s per-gallon fuel price in the gap box. Tank purchase and installation are not part of the rate.
What the result means
One hundred gallons at $2.674 is $267.40. That is fuel only. A summer quote can differ because this series was not collected then.
A comparison that stays on this source
Heating oil uses a different EIA survey and a different price. Do not paste one into the other.
If the number looks wrong
- A tank quote that includes equipment will not match this fuel total.
- PADD or state averages were not extracted, so they are not selectable.
This is not the cost to buy or set a tank, and it is not a HomeCost installation guide.
Record last verified 2026-09-06. That date is the record’s verification stamp, not a claim that a market price is unchanged today.
Official unit price: the headline is a published series observation. Any total is quantity × that sourced rate.
High evidence confidence
High evidence confidence is an internal CostMage evidence-quality score (80 of 100). It describes source strength and extract completeness, not the probability that a quoted figure matches your bill.
Labels: 75–100 high, 60–74 moderate, below 60 limited. The number is not a probability that the cost is correct.

Methodology
Gallons × official EIA residential propane price. PADD/state values may be cited from the same table later; they are not invented here.
Limitations
- Weekly collection pauses in the off-season.
- This is fuel price, not tank purchase or installation.
- Excludes some local taxes depending on EIA series notes.
Questions
Is this the cost to install a tank?
No. This page is the EIA residential fuel price. Tank installation was not validated as a national typical.
Why is the series dated March if I am reading it later?
EIA pauses weekly residential propane collection after the heating season. CostMage keeps the last official weekly observation instead of inventing a summer price.
Is this the same as heating oil?
No. Propane and heating oil are separate EIA surveys. Do not substitute one price for the other.
